Presentation title: Deep learning assisted quantitative assessment of histopathological markers of Alzheimer’s disease and cerebral amyloid angiopathy
In this webinar Valentina Perosa, MD research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, will present some applications of deep learning derived measures of histopathology in Alzheimer’s Disease. We will explore how histopathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s Disease were objectively and precisely quantified in a related pathology: Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy. Importantly, the talk will focus on how these measurements innovatively contributed to a better understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms, such as perivascular clearance and neuroinflammation.
Moderator:
Dr. Lucas Stetzik graduated from the College of Wooster with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. He completed his Ph.D. in integrated biosciences with a focus on behavioral neuroendocrinology at the University of Akron. He went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida studying the neurophysiology of motivated behavior using in-vivo calcium imaging. He then accepted a position as a research scientist at the Van Andel Institute to develop an engrailed1 synucleinopathy mouse model for Parkinson’s Disease and deep learning models to analyze histopathology using Aiforia. Currently, he is a Senior Scientist at Aiforia working with clinicians and researchers from the Mayo Clinic.
